However, a variety of granite stones supplied granite wholesalers and producers in China and India are quite different. About Silver Gray Granite

Granite is a light-colored igneous rock with grains large enough to be visible with the unaided eye. It forms from the slow crystallization of magma below Earth’s surface. The colour depends on the type and number of components. It is composed mainly of quartz and feldspar with minor amounts of mica, amphiboles, and other minerals. The feldspar content is 40% to 60% and the quartz content is 20% to 40%. This mineral composition usually gives granite a red, pink, gray, or white color with dark mineral grains visible throughout the rock.

Silver Gray Granite is a medium variation stone featuring shades of gray, black, browns and blues with flecks of lighter grays throughout. The low variation of patterning has an overall wavy look to it. This stone is mainly quarried in Central China, and is very consistent in color and movement from shipment to shipment.

Origin of Silver Gray Granite

A hundred and more years ago, when most of our city streets were first paved, the stones used were a commodity as concrete is today. Few paid attention to their colour, it is just good fortune that the end product is attractive. Initially sea, the early materials came from coastal quarries, mostly in the British Isles but not exclusively so. Typically granite setts and kerbs would come from Aberdeen, Creetown and Dalbeattie in South West Scotland and also Cornwall. Inland quarries only became a realistic possibility with the advent of canals but more importantly far, the railway.

In the early to mid twentieth century, cash became king and man made materials were seen to be a more economical resource. The use of our home grown natural stone became less prevalent, but with the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1989 this started to change. Economical and relatively good quality Chinese granite started to become available to designers and architects. These tended to be silver gray, mid gray or black, with costs as little as 1/4 that of York stone or European granite, so they were hungrily bought up.

In time, other more interesting colors became available, but the cheapest far tended to be the Silver Grey. The G603 comes from huge quarries in Central China which produce a good quality product, extremely economically, so more and more schemes started to use it and the silver gray is still the biggest seller in the UK, which also means that we have an awful lot of very “gray” schemes here in the UK.

To sum up, the Scotland-made granite is originally the market leader for quality and design. Now, well designed, good quality product can be also be sourced from China where European influence and guidance have been sought to raise the quality of production in the country. This has enabled the introduction of good quality product at a less expensive price.

Advantages of Silver Gray Granite

Durability – The prime reason why granite is selling like a hot cake is the long-lasting ability of the stone. Silver Gray Granite is a very durable stone and lends itself well to both interior and exterior projects, in both commercial and residential settings. Some examples include countertops, bar tops, flooring, pool areas, and outdoor kitchens. It will be beautiful paired with many popular cabinet colors on the market including white, off-white, grays, and browns.

Color richness and elegance – The good granite is defined the element of beauty and rich colors. The cool tone of Silver Grey Granite Paving is ideal for brightening darker areas. With an even grain and sawn, flame-textured surface, these granite paving slabs are a hard-wearing, economical choice for both contemporary and traditional designs and requires virtually no maintenance.

Easy Maintenance – Like any natural stone, granite needs to be sealed to create a nonporous finish, and protect it from stains. When your granite countertop is properly sealed, daily care is a breeze. Just use a soft cloth to dust the surface, or wipe it down with plain water or a mild soap. If your countertop needs extra cleaning, use a specially-formulated stone cleaner with a neutral pH. Never use abrasive cleansers or harsh chemicals.

Cost-benefit – Natural Silver Grey Granite Setts are a hard-wearing, economical choice that’s ideal for driveways and high-traffic areas of paving slabs. These granite setts are also ideal for bringing definition to patios, pathways and terraces. With hand-cut edges that complement their riven surface, they work well as a colour contrast with darker granites, or to add texture to paving patterns.
